We mature our cider, perry and damson port in old oak whisky and brandy barrels and we use a few ones each year. The old ones are still in great shape and are useful for water butts, planters BUT their wood is a great resource and ideal for purposing/recycling. This year (2019), we've designed and started making whiskey stools, ber flights and candle holders - which are advertised elsewhere under 'flights and lights'. Solid, with great heft and patina they make great gifts. Using the oak staves (strips of shaped wood) is always a challenge as they curve in all directions.
